Sea Lavender, Heliotropium gnaphalodes, is a very unique beach dune plant from the southeastern coastline of Florida and the Caribbean. Linear leaves with matted hairs giving this plant a beautiful gray color and tight clusters of small white flowers contrast against the foliage. The plant grows in full sun and average to moist drained soil. Sea Lavender does not tolerate flooding. It is a magnificent specimen plant once the right mix of drainage and moisture has established a strong plant. As a dune plant, it is adapted to strong wind and salt exposure. This beach shrub reaches approximately 5 feet in height and can spread much broader. Being a coastal species, Sea Lavender tends to fungus if it's too far inland.
