Saw Palmetto, Serenoa repens, usually grows 4-12 ft. tall, with fan shaped leaves that may be 1 1/2 to 2 ft across with harsh, sharp, saw-like teeth, along the petiole. Fruit are orange to black when mature. Palmettos are a ubiquitous symbol of Florida providing a sense of place in the Florida landscape. Saw Palmetto is ultra easy growing and highly adaptable with high drought, salt, flood, sun to shade and cold tolerance throughout central and south Florida. Palmettos sustain many forms of life including pollinators, birds, and mammals making this a desirable wildlife plant. The large and distinctive leaves provide a great texture for landscaping.
