Leather Fern, Acrostichum danaeifolium, is a unmistakable fern species. It is our largest growing native fern reaching 10 to 12 feet in height. It is adapted to brackish and fresh water marshes and is salt air tolerant.

As a landscape plant, this is a dramatic fern with large textured leaves and it can grow in sun or shade as long as the soil is moist to wet. Leather Fern is a great accent that can add a dynamic to a landscape.
