Dahoon Holly, Ilex cassine, slowly reaches 25-35 ft. high and 12-15 ft. wide. Typically it is a medium size broad-leaf evergreen tree. It is planted as an ornamental for the evergreen foliage and profuse red fruit used in Christmas decorations or as a food attraction for songbirds. Pollinators are drawn to the small spring blooms. Be sure to plant female trees for the berries and male trees for pollination to get the berries. Plant in average to moist sites in full to partial sun as a good wildlife plant for enclosure or screening, or as a specimen tree.
