Beach Tea
Beach Tea, Croton punctatus, is a small shrub or ground cover from the deeply drained dunes of the west coast of Florida. It is a highly attractive plant with silver-green leaves that stand out against tan stems. It will grow much broader than tall with maximum height around 2 feet and spread up to 3 to 4 feet. This is a really interesting plant for accent in a landscape with it's low habit and silver coloration. It a great choice for full sun in coastal or deeply drained landscapes where a highly wind and salt tolerant plant is desired. Beach Tea will not tolerate poor drainage and care should be taken to place this plant properly with that consideration. Beach Tea can be short lived (2 to 3 years), but they tend to seed and recycle themselves.
