Wilcox Nursery and Landscape is proud to present the 2018 Eco Fest on April 14th 2018. This event is to support the Native Plant Horticulture Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The event is free and open to the public but anyone who makes a donation to the NPHF will receive instant discounts on purchases during the event (proof of donation required via receipt). Selva’s Superfoods food truck will be on site and there will be vendors and exhibits for guests to enjoy as well.
PROGRAMS
9:15 am ARNOLD RUTKIS ‘Creating Form and Function’ that will focus on the aesthetic & practical nature of native plants and how to make good selections based on your unique conditions to create a low maintenance, yet highly functional landscape. This is a casual walking tour and talk through the native plant displays.
10 am HILARY EDENFIELD ‘Edible Natives for Your Garden’ a living off the land, fun and practical eat and drink your way to understanding natives you may want to grow
10:15 am ALICIA BOSTDORFF-MILLER ‘A Children’s Tour of Plants’ that will take kids throughout the nursery to explore the many native plants that birds, butterflies, and other creatures love to make a part of their daily activities!
11 am DR.DAVID HASTINGS ‘Now for the Good News on Climate Change’ The science is clear: we know that the planet is warming and that this is due to human influence. What are the consequences of this global change? What will happen to those of us living in Tampa Bay? What can we do to stop or slow down these changes?
12:30 pm MICHAEL KURAS ‘Sustainable Living Design’ Creating beautiful, vibrant, living landscapes that reduce maintenance and chemical requirements while encouraging birds, butterflies along with numerous other pollinators and beneficial creatures.
1:30 pm JEANNE MURPHY AND BRIAN LANE ‘Sensing Nature’ and the ‘Florida Master Naturalist Program’ discuss programs that provide knowledge and understanding of our incredible natural eco-systems. These rewarding programs provide credentials and validation for many ‘Real Florida’ jobs including for native plant professionals and businesses or the outdoor hobbyist
2:30 pm DR. CRAIG HUEGEL ‘The Importance of Native Plants’ This program ends the day of presentations with a not to be missed delivery of what you need to know about how really important native plants are.
SELVA’S SUPERFOODS FOOD TRUCK will be on hand to keep you going! Selva’s ingredients are non-gmo and pesticide free. They use vegetables from local community gardens. Everything is fresh, natural and seasonal.
